Ingredients for 12 people

  • Flour3.5 cups
  • Milk1 cup, warm
  • Yeast1 tbsp
  • Sugar1/4 cup
  • Eggs2
  • Butter1/4 cup, softened
  • Vanilla1 tsp
  • Salt1/2 tsp
  • Vegetable oilfor frying
  • Chocolate200 g for dipping

Method

  1. Mix the warm milk with the yeast and a spoonful of the sugar and leave for 5 minutes until foamy.

  2. Add the eggs, remaining sugar, vanilla and salt, then the flour gradually, and finally the soft butter.

  3. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic, then cover for 1 hour in a warm place until doubled.

  4. Roll the dough 1 cm thick and cut rounds with a donut cutter, or a glass and a small cutter for the centre.

  5. Place on floured baking paper, cover and leave for 30 minutes until puffed.

  6. Heat the oil over medium heat (170°C / 340°F) and fry the donuts for 1 minute per side until golden.

  7. Drain on paper towels and let them cool a little.

  8. Melt the chocolate (with the cream if using) and dip the top of each donut in it.
